Monolith Gaming is the latest chapter in a community that began in 1996. What started as Battle Net Revolution grew through friendship, competition, hardship, charity, and leadership into the multi-game community that now carries the Monolith name.
Monolith was not built overnight. Its foundation was laid in the early days of online gaming and strengthened across multiple generations of players, platforms, and communities.
Monolith is built around real relationships. Competitive players, community leaders, creators, and returning veterans all help shape an active culture that values respect, inclusion, and consistency.
The community has used its platform to support charitable work and meaningful outreach, showing that competitive energy and positive impact do not have to be separate things.
In 1996, Chris and Patrick, both twelve years old, discovered Diablo and the earliest forms of online multiplayer through Battle.net. What started as dungeon runs and late-night sessions quickly turned into Battle Net Revolution, a growing guild culture built on friendship, leadership, and protecting other players from those who disrupted the experience. As the community expanded, rivalries intensified, especially with Dark Knights of Kalimdor, before competition eventually gave way to collaboration. Around the same time, the darker side of online culture was also emerging, and the group began shaping stricter standards for conduct and safer community practices. After Patrick’s passing in 2000, Chris carried the community forward in his memory, turning BnR from a game-based group into a lasting legacy.
As online gaming moved beyond PC and into Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, the community evolved with it. In 2005, Chris and long-time members formalized that next chapter as Redacted Gaming. The new identity gave the group clearer structure, broader reach, and the ability to grow across more titles and more platforms. Members from different eras came together through games like Destiny, Call of Duty, Battlefield, and other major franchises, turning what had once been a guild into a larger, more recognizable gaming organization.
By 2015, Redacted Gaming had become more than a community built around competition and shared interests. It formally stepped into charitable work and community outreach, embracing the idea that gaming could be used to improve lives. A major part of that mission was its connection to Gamers Outreach, whose work providing gaming equipment to hospitalized children aligned closely with the values the community had carried for years. Fundraising and awareness efforts helped shift the identity from simply gathering players to building purpose through gaming, support, and service.
In 2024, after nearly three decades of growth and reinvention, the community entered a new chapter through a member and leadership vote that led to the Monolith Gaming rebrand. The name was chosen to represent strength, unity, and permanence. It honors everything that came before while giving the community a sharper identity for the future. Today, Monolith Gaming stands as a multi-game, multi-platform community shaped by history, powered by its members, and still rooted in the same core idea that started it all: gaming is at its best when it brings people together.
Monolith has always been more than a tag or logo. It is a place where people find long-term friendships, return after years away, and continue building shared experiences together.
The community has embraced charitable outreach and service-minded efforts, proving that gaming spaces can support causes that matter and leave a positive mark beyond the screen.
Few communities can point to a history that spans almost 30 years. Monolith’s staying power comes from leadership, adaptation, and a culture people believe in enough to keep carrying forward.
